Code of Conduct

DRAFT — PENDING LEGAL REVIEW. NOT FOR PUBLICATION.

Version: 1.0 (draft) Effective date: [DATE]

Applies to athletes, parents, guardians, coaches, and spectators at all T3TV events.

Why this exists

Our events are filmed, streamed, and attended by scouts, media, and hundreds of families. How people behave in the building is part of what makes the environment worth being in. This document sets the standard and explains what happens when it is not met.

By registering, you agree that you, your athlete, and any guests attending with you will follow this code.

1. Athletes

Expected:

  • Arrive on time, checked in, and ready to play
  • Wear the issued jersey and credential at all times in the venue
  • Respect officials' decisions without argument
  • Treat opponents, teammates, staff, and volunteers with respect
  • Give full effort and compete within the rules
  • Follow instructions from staff, coaches, and officials
  • Leave the venue and locker areas as you found them

Not tolerated:

  • Fighting, or any physical altercation
  • Deliberately attempting to injure another player
  • Profanity, taunting, trash talk directed at individuals, or obscene gestures
  • Abuse of officials, staff, or volunteers
  • Discriminatory language or conduct of any kind, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability
  • Bullying, hazing, or intimidation
  • Theft, vandalism, or damage to the venue
  • Possession of alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, or illegal drugs
  • Leaving the venue during the event without a parent or guardian

2. Parents, guardians, and spectators

This section matters as much as the one above.

Expected:

  • Support all athletes positively
  • Let coaches coach and officials officiate
  • Model the behavior you want your athlete to show
  • Address concerns with event staff calmly and away from the court
  • Supervise your other children while at the venue

Not tolerated:

  • Abuse, heckling, or intimidation of officials, staff, volunteers, coaches, athletes, or other spectators
  • Approaching an official during or after a game to dispute a call
  • Entering the court or bench area without authorization
  • Profanity or discriminatory language
  • Physical confrontation of any kind
  • Filming or photographing other people's children in a manner that causes concern, or approaching athletes who are not your own
  • Consumption of alcohol, or attendance while intoxicated
  • Attempting to influence rankings, evaluations, or court assignments through pressure, gifts, or repeated contact with staff

3. Coaches and program staff

  • Hold a valid credential and wear it visibly
  • Supervise your athletes at all times
  • Model respectful conduct toward officials and opponents
  • Do not recruit athletes from other programs on site
  • Do not dispute rankings or evaluations with scouts or media during the event

4. Safety and safeguarding

  • Adults must not be alone in a one-to-one, unobserved situation with an athlete who is not their own child
  • Photography and video by attendees is permitted in general seating areas only, and must not focus on individual children who are not your own
  • Photography is not permitted in locker rooms, changing areas, or restrooms under any circumstances
  • Report any safeguarding concern immediately to event staff or to T3tv.youth@gmail.com

[NOTE FOR COUNSEL AND OPERATIONS: consider whether a formal safeguarding policy, background checks for staff and volunteers, and a designated safeguarding lead are required by insurers, venues, or state law. Also consider mandatory reporter obligations for staff in each event state.]

5. Media and social conduct

  • Do not post content that identifies, mocks, or targets another athlete
  • Do not post content of other people's children without their parent's permission
  • Criticism of officials, staff, or athletes on social media during or after an event may be treated as a breach of this code

6. Venue rules

Each venue has its own rules on parking, entry, food and drink, and prohibited items. Venue rules apply in addition to this code and, where stricter, take precedence.

7. Consequences

Staff may take any of the following steps, in any order, depending on severity:
